Many Bulgarians will know of someone who has had their life changed or taken away from them due to a road accident. In fact it is a regular occurence for fatal car accidents to happen across the country and as a writer and journalist I have witnessed the aftermath of these road deaths.
In 2011 the amount of deaths on the roads has been increasing, so much so that Sofia has a sign in its centre showing the national road death toll to make it plain to see.
Since the early hours of Tuesday 16th August (the last 24 hours) another five people have been added to the signs total as road accidents in the country claimed more lives. This number may increase as there are still four in a critical condition in hospitals across Bulgaria. Added to these deaths are also over fifty people injured in road traffic accidents across the country.
Among the five dead were relatives of Filip Bokov, Bulgaria’s ambassador to Slovenia. The son of Filip Bokov and his sons wife both lost their life on the roads of Bulgaria.
