Increase in Winter Tourism

The travel industry has reported an increase in travel to Bulgaria's winter tourist spots this winter.

While many countries are seeing a decline in tourism due to the economic situation felt by many, it seems Bulgaria is bucking the trend as Winter tourism saw an increase in visitors to winter tourist hot spots such as Bansko, Pamporovo and Borovets.

The increase in visitors is in some part down to an increase in winter revellers from Britain, but the main bulk of visitors is because of an increase of travellers from Russia which saw an upturn of 17% on previous data on Russian holiday makers.

The main areas to have enjoyed this tourism boom are Plovdiv and Sofia.

Many are hoping that this increase in tourism will carry on into the summer season at the Black Sea resorts of Sunny Beach in Burgas and Golden Sands in Varna.
