While many businesses across economic sectors have seen tough times through the economic crisis in 2010, the port of Varna has actually seen an increase in trade.In 2010 the port of Varna had 8 million metric tons of cargoe pass through the port, this is 1.3 million metric tons more than the 6.7 million metric tons that the port of Varna handled in 2009, an increase of 12%.
This increase in cargoe passing through the port of Varna is seen as pivotal in the business regions of Bulgaria's Black Sea as the CEO of Port Varna has said that factories around the port have returned to levels of freight seen before the financial crisis took a hold of the country.
Port Varna is said to have made 4 Million BGN in profit in 2010, around 300% more than the profit seen by the port in 2009. The port has also spent 3 million BGN on improving its facilities in 2010 and plans to spend over three million BGN in 2011 to improve the port further.
