Retail Trade Poor in Late 2010

The retail trade of Bulgaria was one of the worst hit in Europe over 2010 and predominantly the third quarter of 2010 as the financial crisis takes its hold on Bulgarian citizens.

EU statistics office Eurostat produced its annual stats on the 6th January which showed that retail in Bulgaria has been severely hit. In fact simply looking at the figures of all EU countries straight away its evident to note that Bulgaria is second in the downturn of retail behind neighbouring Romania.

Over 2010 the retail sector in Bulgaria decreased by 5.2 percent against figures of 2009. It seems that as the financial crisis continues Bulgarians have tightened their purses and wallets to ensure bills are paid.

Many Bulgarians are simply giving up on luxurious items and swapping these for more cost effective necessities, something evident in the retail sectors that are worst hit.
