Kardzhali has seen spring like behaviour occur in the tree population of the city over the weekend and this week.
Kardzhali is currently experiencing an unusually warm climate for this time of year and these warm temperatures are believed to have convinced the population of trees that spring is here. This has meant that many trees have blossomed from Sunday onwards in a move that has stunned many.
Trees do not normally blossom in Bulgaria until mid to late March after the start of Baba Marta but in a strange twist it seems that many trees have blossomed a month or so early.
The main trees to have blossomed early have been fruit and nut trees.
The concerns that many have about this strange behaviour is if the warm weather gave way to a colder climate before spring arrives as this could cause the flower buds to die and a smaller harvest to be produced.
