FIFA have just published the new FIFA world rankings for national football teams and Bulgaria has managed to maintain its ranking of 49th in the world just ahead of Israel who lie 50th.
Currently Bulgaria has 555 points, some 10 points lower than October but has steadily climbed up from 54th place where Bulgaria were at the end of the Summer after being beaten by England at Wembley.
Even without the enigmatic Dimitar Berbatov the Bulgarian national team is performing well and in recent times since the appointment of the German Lothar Matthaeus as head coach. Under Lothar Matthaeus Bulgaria has won two matches and lost one, these were a 1 - 0 win away at Wales in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, a 2 - 0 win at home to Suadi Arabia and a 1 - 0 loss at home to Serbia.
