Hotel Visitors Decline in Sofia

2010 saw a decline in the number of visitors staying in hotels in Sofia. The number of nights visitors have stayed in Sofia in 2010 declined by just over 1.25%, while this may not sound like a huge percentage it does work out at 140,000 nights over the year or 383 rooms per night over all hotels in Sofia.

Data shows that the 140,000 less nights spent in Sofia over 2010 was created by 90,000 less nights spent by Bulgarians and 50,000 less nights from foreign visitors. Overall this shows that 64% of the 140,000 is made up of Bulgarian visitors who have stayed away from overnight accomodation in the capital.

The main foreign visitors staying in Sofia hotels' are from Germany and Greece, which is unchanged for the past few years.

This decline is a comparison to the amount of visitors Sofia received in 2005, some five years ago. The data for this has come from Sofia's Municipal Company "Tourist Service".
