Warm Christmas in Bulgaria

The Western and Northern areas of Europe are suffering with cold weather but Bulgaria enjoyed a very warm Christmas this year (2010).

Аlthough there has been heavy fog and a short period with snowy spells overall Bulgaria has enjoyed a warm spell this December which carried on over the festive season. In fact looking at the temperatures one would think that Bulgaria was entering late spring rather than being in the middle of Winter.

Christmas day saw high temperatures such as Shumen at 19.5 degrees Celcius, Lovech 19 degrees, Pleven 18.8 degrees, and Razgrad 18.1 degrees. The area enjoying the hottest temperatures on Christmas day was Veliko Tarnovo which recorded 20.1 degrees Celsius at 2pm in the afternoon.
