Bulgarian Wrestling Champion Stabbed

The reigning Bulgarian and World Wrestling Champion, Mihail Ganev, has been stabbed.

Reports say that Mihail Ganev was enjoying a night out with his brother and friends over the Christmas weekend when two groups ended up in an altercation. Ganev intervened in the dispute to calm matters and stop the altercation, when a man named by Police as Vladimir Ivanov stabbed Ganev, his brother and one of their friends.

Ganev suffered the worst injuries of the three stab victims receiving 5 stab wounds, including two to the stomach and back which were the most serious of the wounds.

The hospital in Gabrovo where Mihail Ganev was taken have advised that he is stable and that his injuries are not life threatening but it will take some time to recover.

Ganev found fame back in 2006 when he finished 5th in the World Wrestling Championships, but is more well known for becoming the World Wrestling Champion in the 84kg freestyle class by gaining the gold medal in the 2010 World Wrestling Championships in Moscow.
