Areas in the west of Bulgaria have declared a flu epidemic after a huge amount of people with flu symptoms have been reported in the past week.
The worst affected area is in the south-western region of Blagoevgrad where the city of Blagoevgrad and neighbouring town of Petrich are experiencing huge numbers of people with respiratory problems related to flu symptoms.
Other areas affected include Sofia that is reporting cases of 300 people in every 10,000 who live in the Sofia region.
The belief is that this flu epidemic is related to the seasonal Flu virus and not related to the H1N1 Swine Flu virus although the H1N1 virus has not been ruled out.
